Prestige and dominance of language in a contact situation: superstratum language: the dominant language after it has obliterated another language, ex: scottish accent original gaelic phonology. Tuesday, june 11, 2019: substratum language: the less dominant language which gets replaced due to power relationships between communities, ex: the un phenomenon, adstratal language: languages with equal status. Two types of change: gradual change: enduring peace with a shifting pro le of language use.
