Jean piaget (1896-1980)- the father of modern developmental psychology". Schema- concept/framework that organizes and interprets information. Assimilation- interpreting new experiences in terms of existing schemas. Accommodation- adapting current schemas to incorporate new info. Children will make many errors in reasoning based on pre-existing schema and have to reassess existing and create new schema (ex- scaling errors like trying to get in toy car or use other objects as slides) Piaget"s stage i (birth 2 years) Infants acquire information about the world by sensing it and moving around within it. Object permanence- the idea that objects continue to exist when they can"t be seen (signals transition to next stage) Use visual models to represent other places and perform pretend play. Start to be able to understand another"s mental state. Sally-anne task- 2 girls playing, 1 leaves and puts the toy in a bucket, the other moves it, the first comes back.
