Document Summary

5 metatarsals: tuberosity of 5th metatarsal, 2 sesamoid bones on underside of 1st metatarsal. 14 phalanges: toes 2-5 have 3 parts: Interosseus membrane: connects tibia and fibula: thick membrane that allows for attachment of muscles, prevents separation of fibula from tibia, anterior compartment: Intermuscular septum of leg defined by tibia, interosseus membrane, fibula, anterior: anterior intermuscular septum of leg, tight due to bony and fascial constraints runs from fascia, deep to fibula. Any inflammation in the compartment will cause compartment. Tibialis anterior: innervated by deep peroneal nerve, supplied by anterior tibial artery, lateral compartment: Anterior intermuscular septum, fibula: small, tight compartment, contains evertors of foot: Fibularis longus: innervated by superficial fibular nerve, posterior compartment defined by posterior intermuscular septum, thick outer fascia, largest of the 3 compartments and further broken down into 2 compartments by the transverse intermuscular septum. Septum, tibia, interosseus membrane, fibula: contains 3 muscles defined by transverse intermuscular, flexor hallucis longus, tibialis posterior, flexor digitorum longus.
