An abused child (a victim) may become a child abuser. They finally have a chance to take revenge on the world. Revolutionaries (victims) become tyrants (now they have power; they can take revenge) You don"t want to give someone with the psychology of having been a victim any power (you want to prevent this victimization from happening again) People believe they are entitled to inflict pain when they have suffered it. It would be a victory for fyodor to stir anything in father zossima (for fz to lose his temper) but even he cannot do this. Father zossima responds to fyodors buffoonery: "do not be so ashamed of yourself for that is the root of it all" (page 44)
