Monkey study. when given the option in between surrogate mothers either made of wire with milk or with fur but without milk, monkeys would always chose the. Mother with fur despite being deprived of food (after getting nourishment from wired mother) The result was the monkeys had a harder time making relationships with other monkeys when released into the wild. We are social animals. we need love. Mother interacts normally with child then just stares at them with no facial response despite babies attempts to get them to react. Baby recognizes change of relationship and reacts negatively. Repairs are made quickly when mother starts reacting again. We need a secure base from our attachment figures. Causes for parents to ignore children can range from being on the phone. 2 years old in hospitals: to postpartum depression.
