Pre-islamic strand nationalism developed as a result of indo-iranian interactions. Pahlavi state adopted this strand and popularized it. Uncovered old artifacts revealing knowledge about ancient iran. Several orientalist discovered shared roots of indo-iranians. Created a new idea of ancient iran focusing on a centering of the aryan race. Simultaneous development (second half of 19th century) intensification of relations between. Parsi community community in bombay which immigrated from iran during periods of instability. Starting to flourish as community of wealthy merchants. Faced problem arrival of protestant missionaries, who criticized the parsi community. Protestants questioned emphasis on rituals and perceived superstitions. All these criticisms necessitated a response from the parsi community. What emerges is a religious reform movement. Created something that mirrored religious practices of missionaries. Compiled scattered texts into a systematic body of lit. Started looking at texts written in ancient iranian languages.
