Skull fits brain (skull grew to cover your brain and you could learn things. The brain has no pain receptors so during brain surgery, they keep you awake (local anesthesia for skull only) to see how you react to certain stimuli. There is no specialization of neural tissue, all brain areas act together. Impairment in behavior related by how much tissue is removed, not the location. Today though, we know there is some localization function (as thought before) Central nervous system: the brain and spinal cord. Spinal cord transmits signals between it and the body. Peripheral nervous system : the rest of the body. Nerves carry impulses to skeletal muscles and bring information from sensory receptors. Controls activity in internal organs and automatic processes (respiration, digestion, etc) Connected by corpus callosum (large myelinated nerve track) callosum (when cannot be controlled with medication) Some people who have really bad seizures cut the corpus.
