Family: network of people who create a sense of home, share a collective identity, experience a common history, and envision a similar future. Nuclear family: a wife, a husband, and children ex: mom, dad, me and ariya. Blended family: remarriages for one or both partners, where at least one child is not the biological offspring of both adults resides in the household. Ex: if emily lived with us, she is only dad"s daughter not moms. Cohabiting couples: people who are unmarried but romantically involved and live together. Ex: when emily and patrick lived together but no married single parent household: one adult has sole responsibility of caregiver of child. Interracial relationships are starting to grow in america. Communication in a family: family is built and destroyed thru communication. Functions of a family protection: food, safety family socialization: process by which parents teach children behaviors that are appropriate, expected, moral, or polite.
