Use of language to persuade an audience: language can be more than text. The author, text, audience: connections between all three, doesn"t necessarily mean the author has control, intention of author doesn"t always make it up to interpretation. Ethos a person"s character, do you trust them, credibility, not always contained in the text. Logos logic, facts, technique of presentation. Trying to deconstruct what the author is saying, what is the meaning (word choice, what is being said, why it is being said, why is it presented in this way), asking questions. Explicit analysis: in front of your face. What not to do: it just is , they didn"t mean it that way . The claim the argument trying to be made, point of persuasion, the thesis. The context evidence backing up the claim, environment of creation or encountered, can be particular, or anything that affects the reception or creation of text.
