The sum of the various forms of capital is the cumulative advantage of the privileged classes. It is a key to the reproduction of the class system y transmission from generation to generation. Social class influences the values parents instill in their children and the strategies parents use to raise children: kohn 1969: the reproduction of values, self-direction vs. conformity. Lareau 2003: parenting strategies: cultivated vs. natural growth. Kohns thoughts on how parents raised their kids. The natural growth pattern leads toward what lareau characterizes as a sense of constraint in working- class and poor children. They have not been encouraged to cultivate formal language skills, to express their own opinions, or to question, challenge, or negotiate with adults.
