Mary wollstonecraft - starts the trend of women"s rights. Spoke out against inequality and artificial distinctions of rank, birth or wealth. Women had the same innate capacity for reason and self- government as men. Virtue the same thing for men and women, and relations between the sexes ought to be based on equality. Women taught to be dependent and seductive in order to win husbands, education promotes liberty and self-reliance. The natural division of labor between women and men. Women are hinted at having political rights. Many salons are run by aristocratic women by upper classes, they gather scholars together to start talking about ideas. Mary astell, early feminist, condemned the assumption that women were incapable of reason. Works of etiquette became popular within upper and upper middle class, enlightened individuals are a part of the supposed clique . Cultural elitism began, middle classes could afford to go to the opera. New stastes in art, art reflected lavish lifestyles etc.
