Gender sexual identity, race, ethnicity, age, physical ability, class, regional. !1: diversity and cultural challenges in human communication. Culture- language, values, beliefs, traditions and customs people share and learn. In groups- groups with which we identify. Out groups- groups which we view as not like ourselves. Ethnocentrism-attitude that one"s culture is superior to others, or that world revolves around your culture. Prejudice- unfairly biased attitudes toward an out-group: common cultural values and norms. High context- relies heavily on subtle, nonverbal cues to maintain social harmony. Low context- uses language primarily to express thoughts, feelings and ideas directly.
