Document Summary

Andy worhol was the founder of the pop art movement. Pop art = points out nature of our society today. Things become less and less important over time. It"s about capitalism"s market after the second world war: expanding capitalism. Capitalism is in constant need of expanding. Captures attention or a very limited period of time. Andy warhol, large campbell"s tomato soup can, 1962, (acrylic on canvas) Set up in a gallery as if you"re in a supermarket aisle. Technique he uses is : silk screen. Acrylic is highly poisonous but used in textiles. Reminds me of picasso"s gertrude stein - the way this work conceptualizes the public perception of the content. Quickly created - probably took about a half hour. It"s artwork produced with industrial techniques - adapted to the atmosphere of the highly industrial society. Turns this very simple image of a household object into an artwork worth hundreds of thousands.
