The jesus story does not end in luke"s gospel, but continues on in acts through the mission of the church. Jesus" followers are to go out and be his witnesses. The power of the promised holy spirit (acts 1:4-5) Jerusalem, judea, samaria, and the ends of the earth (acts 1:8) The message is first for his people. To the ends of the earth: inclusion of gentiles. When jesus ascended to heaven he did not go away, he goes and sits on the throne in heaven. Jesus is still active in the remainder of acts. He reigns as risen lord from heaven at god"s right hand. Luke makes it a point to name all the apostles in acts 1:13. God"s salvation plans continue on through israel.
