Substances in this class include gasoline, toluene, amyl nitrate, acetone, nitrous oxide and ether. In products such as cleaning solutions, lighter fluids, paint thinners, household glues, spray deodorants, stain removers, and nail polish remover these compounds are used. Both such compounds have similar effects on the cns: they inhibit the activity of the cns (similar to alcohol poisoning) The cns depressants are seen as cross-tolerance. Semi-liquid compounds are inhaled from paper or plastic bags. Liquids are placed in a paper bag and inhaled onto the fabric. Aerosols are sprayed in and inhaled into a tube or balloon. All inhalants are absorbed quickly into the lungs and have a fast onset of action. Because many factors, teenagers are the main users of inhalants: the inhalants are affordable and convenient for teenagers to acquire, they are very inexpensive and the effects are short-lived. Male athletes usually participate in an anabolic steroid misuse in an effort to improve height, strength and athletic ability.
