Document Summary

Biol 222 lecture 13 transcription and rna processing. Rna structure: ribose sugar (hydroxyl group at the 2" carbon, uracil replaces thymine. Folds in on itself rrna (ribosomal rna) components of ribosomes (16s, 23s, 5s etc) trna (transfer rna) brings amino acids to the ribosome during translation. Mrna (messenger rna) - genetic intermediate that is translated into proteins: directs protein synthesis. Small rna (only in eukaryotes) - non-coding rna (ncrna), small rna (srna), small nuclear rna (snrna), micro rna (mirna), small interfering rna (sirna) Rna polymerase (rnap) - catalyzes rna synthesis (5" to 3") Transcription bubble molecular structure that occurs during transcription when a limited portion of the dna double strand is unwound. Only 1 rnap synthesizes all classes of rna. Rna polymerase holoenzyme binds to promoters, unwinds dna and catalyzes incorporation of incoming ntps via complementary base pairing with the template dna strand. Core enzyme - 5 subunits ( 2 " ) no sigma.
