Divides up the work so that everyone is held accountable. Preparation: break content into 4 major areas. Ex: doing a report on canada (political system, history, economy, culture: prepare guiding questions for each area. Look in textbook, go to the library depends on goal of the activity. More questions for older students, less for younger students: assign students to teams and expert groups. Mixed ability teams (these are relative distinctions) Expert groups include mixed ability students from all teams; these groups are made up of students who were assigned to work on the same topic. Ex: all students assigned to political system together. Allows students to teach each other: prepare individual accountability. Ex: a test with questions that reflect the guiding questions; jeopardy (any student in the group may be asked a question from any of the topic area; team version) Classroom instruction: put students in teams.
