One of the most notable factors in this memoir is the difference in gender roles in. Mindy focuses on a very specific time in her life, the first thing i noticed was her experience with duante during 9th grade. She started with a quote and her explanation of how she perceived and dealt with what was said to her. She made the whole experience and following remarks the kid said about her weight really relatable to a general audience. Bullying is something most kids go through at some point in their lives while still in grade school. It is never easy to deviate from the norm, especially when it deals with something so personal as the way you look and feel about yourself. What i insulted and had hurt feelings but was able to respond with a simple (cid:498)thank you(cid:499) to appreciated about kaling"s writing, while acknowledging that she is far removed.
