The study of how people change over time. Developmental designs: concerned with how people change as they age, a major variable studied: Involves studying: people of difference ages of one point in time. Compares groups of people of: different ages at one time point. Useful if you want to know about age differences. Disadvantages: studies age differences, does not study developmental changes, people from different cohorts may have different experiences. Cohort: a group of people born in the same year. Involves studying: same people over an extended period of time. Same group of people studied at different points in time as they grow into older individuals. Can see if people"s scores on a variable change over time. Can be used to study developmental changes. People dropping out: practice effect, confound attributed to history or time of measurement. We are often following one cohort over time.
