Secure children: more positive and fewer negative peer reactions and establish more and better friendships. Insecure ambivalent: have a tendency to anxiously but unsuccessfully seek positive peer interaction. Insecure avoidant: often appear aggressive and hostile, may actively reject positive peer interaction, may interpret positive or neutral interactions as hostile. Behavioral problems and social competence in insecure children increase or decline with deterioration or improvement in quality of parenting. Secure attachment is protective in the long term. Internal working model early attachment experience provides a model or template for all other relationships. Attachment patterns remain fairly constant over time, especially at the extremes. Major disruptions and/or major interventions can change attachment patters, for better or worse. It is easier to form a secure attachment with infants with an easy temperament. Caregivers with high sensitivity result in secure attachment.
