Document Summary

The recovery of the eyes visual sensitivity to visual stimuli in darkness after exposure to bright light. Allows the eye to adjust to this different light. The rods are responsible for this process. This process begins to take longer (slow down) as age increases. Full bright to complete darkness the adaptation takes about 30 minutes. The recovery of the eyes visual sensitivity to visual stimuli in light after exposure to darkness. This process is much faster the dark adaptation. The cones are responsible for this process as well. Three types of cones (primary colors of visual light) The color we are seeing is determined by which cone is being used and the rate that it is firing. Multiple cones can fire at the same time like red and blue making purple. Problem that was later identified with this is after images because it can"t explain something that doesn"t correspond with what is being seen.
