Circadian rhythms are biological rhythms, but they are a more speci c subset limited to daily cycles. Depending on how conscious one is, the brain generates waves of activity at varying frequencies that are observable via eeg. Gamma waves & beta waves generated during wakefulness when engaging in complex higher level mental processes. Theta waves generated during times of extreme calm and/or light sleep. Relaxed and resting (awake)- alpha waves: stage 1. Lasts about ve minutes at the beginning and ve minutes at the end of sleep.
