Move from what africans had been subjected to and undergone to what they have done which has more of an agency. Thinkers who understood themselves in both moral and social terms and constantly expressed a commitment to using their knowledge and skills in the service of the people. Values knowledge not just for knowledge sake, but rather knowledge for human sake. One of the most important concerns was the notion of relevance. A relevant education for black studies advocates was an education which was meaningful, useful and reflective of the realities of society and world.
