Buddhism evolved out of the teachings of sakyamuni, who lived in north india in the late. He was born a prince, but abandoned his life of privilege in order to seek the true nature of being. After many years of meditation and privation he reached an understanding ( enlightenment ) He gave his first sermon in deer park; there he laid out the truths he had discovered. The way to overcome desire is to follow the eightfold path.
