Document Summary

A risk factor is an exposure found to be associated with the development of a health condition. The exposure increases the probability of occurrence of disease. Measures of disease frequency- measure disease rick or burden in a population. Measures of association numerically express the link between exposure and disease outcome in analytical epidemiology. Rate of disease (without exposure)- rate of disease (with exposure) Measures of association are used to numerically evaluate the hypothesis that exposure is linked to disease/ outcome. Used to summarize frequencies of disease and exposure and used for calculation of association. Depends on research design and what it"s doing in its structure. Prevalence of existing outcomes/ exposures: odds ratio. An expression of the probability that something unpleasant will happen. A measure of the probability that damage to life, health, property, and/or the environment will occur as a result of a given hazard. At times, epidemiologists will choose to express disease frequency in terms of odds.
