National attributes influence a nation"s immigration policy. Policymakers need to think about what their missions are. Goal is to maximize overall welfare of country"s existing and future citizens. What are effects of immigration on consumer prices/industry strength/worker protection. Citizenship for people born in the country. Citizenship is inherited from one or both parents. Us uses combo of both soli and sanguinis. Reflect degree of tolerance for dual nationality, etc. What legal rights and duties should be linked to citizenship. Advancement of human rights and protection of people and groups from persecution/torture/etc. Absorptive capacity depends on demographic variables like expected mortality rates, fertility rates, rates of immigration/emigration. Depends on physical geography, natural resources and environment.
