California"s anti-miscegenation laws prohibited marriage between whites and chinese. White americans became fearful because the chinese population refused to assimilate with the american population. Divide between whites and nonwhites became more clear within the racial integrity act of 1924. Both cases show how asian immigrants were classified as both nonwhite and unassimilable. Whites: assimilated latinos, some multiracials, assimilated native. Honorary: light-skinned latinos, japanese, koreans, chinese, etc. Collective blacks: blacks, filipinos, vietnamese, dark-skinned latinos, etc.
