Middle-income americans are adults whose annual household income is two- thirds to double the national median, after incomes have been adjusted for household size. 2016: ,200-,600 for a household of 3 people. Managers dominate workers, but they also work. Conditions and relations of work (authority and skills/expertise) Focus on declining standards of living among middle class. Increasing cost of raising children (10k per year per child) Increasing costs of rent and home ownership. About: changing face of the american workforce and the rise of white collar. C. wright mills, 1951 white collar workers. Joint relationships dominate in the upper-middle class. Related to self-reports of marital happiness, especially for women. Middle-class marriages are formed post-college or grad school. Occupations are tied to continued geographic mobility. Families formed in or right out of high school.
