The american dream is one of upward social mobility. There are rewards, but there are also costs. Upward and downward social mobility are associated with sle (stressful life events), the net of all covariates. Seeking what one didn"t have in the family of origin. Sought in spouse bc of unstable home life. Attracted to the trajectory of success and accomplishment. Attracted to the openness of emotional display and value of family. Sought the uncoupling of work and home life. Replicating vs distancing strategies from both working and middle- Recognition that the world is in flux and changing. Ability to take different contexts into account besides one"s own.
