Growth
Babies are the purist essence of who we are
Newborn states

o Awake activity
o Feeding
o Crying

• 2-3 hours a day
• Types
o Basic cry: soft first, then more insistent later
o Mad cry: sudden onset, rapid conclusion
o Pain cry: AHHHH! (breath) AHHHH!
How do you stop the crying?
• If cries because hungry, wet, or in pain

Sleep

• EEG recording of the brain patterns during sleep

o Frequency – number per second
o Regularity – smoothness – of pattern
