PSY-1 Lecture Notes - Lecture 12: Insomnia, Psych, Circadian Rhythm
Document Summary
Cornea the clear surface at the front of the eye that begins the process of direction light to the retina. Pupil an opening formed in the iris. Iris the brightly colored circular muscle surrounding the pupil of the eye. Lens the clear structure behind the pupil that bend light toward the retina. Retina layers of visual processing cells in the back of the eye. The cornea covers the front of the eye to provide protection. The iris is a muscle that contracts and relaxes to control the amount of light entering the eye. Light enters through the pupil in the middle of the iris, and goes through a lens to strike the retina at the back of the eye. The image is turned upside down by the lens, but will be reversed again later in visual processing. One meaning of consciousness refers to the state of alertness. How awake we are and aware of what is going on around us.
