The texts from 900 were translated into arabic and analyzed how they worked with the koran. He caused the repression and censorship of education and learning. He thought that reason is not a method or tool for solving problems, rather an authority. Reason has power and force, is an existential force. Reason is as authoritative as religion (conflict w/ religion) Simply: if reason is an authority, then its not the only one. Reason gives the appearance of authority and should be put in its place. So he called for the banning of education (of everything) Al farabi and avicenna has their worked censored. He wanted to bring back al farabi and avicenna into islam. He became a very influential figure because of family connections. He got this position by becoming a commentator/tutor of aristotle to someone who was high up in the court. However he was shut down and was exiled and his books burned.
