Ice that has accumulated over a long period of time. Older as it gets closer to the core. Melting ice water goes into the ocean sea level rises. Rain has more light water in it. Compared to the water in ocean, rain is composed of relatively light water. Iced times: enriched in o18 cooler temperatures. Ice-free: enriched in o16 warmer temperatures. Sampled for o16 to o18 ratio proxy data. Put together 65 million years of climate change temperature curve. Overall trend is decreasing temperature is going down (cooling due to high o18) In the last 800,000 years ago: most of the period is ice ages and short interglacial periods. Last 10,000 years: things are warming up- holocene maximum; little ice age. 25% took no position at all; none rejected the consensus position. Ue: unconvinced- no ue in the highly cited region of the graph. The greenhouse effect- consensus that people are the cause of climate change.
