Law of conservation of mass matter cannot be created or destroyed. Moves through ecosystems if it didn"t, matter would be trapped. Biogeochemical cycles- processes by which matter cycles- b/t living and nonliving world. In order to cycle nutrients ecosystem must have (at least) producers and decomposers iii. iv. i. ii. Producers & consumers trophic levels: groups of species based on main source of e + nutrition. Primary producers (autotrophs) manufacture own biomass potential food resource for other organisms plants --> land algae + cyanobacteria --> aquatic. Consumers (heterotrophs) obtain e from organic molecules produced by other organisms. Get e from detritus - dead organic matter. Ex: co2, mineral salts --> used by producers.
