Area"s general pattern of atmospheric conditions over decades and longer. Most of the reason why weather occurs is through what happens in the air and ocean. Sun"s energy diffuses over greater area away from equator. Affects the warming of the air and water. Gasses in the atmosphere absorb solar energy and release it as heat back to lower atmosphere. What keeps the earth with liquid water and habitable for life. Sets up different climates in different areas. Deflects rising warm air away from equator (prevailing winds) What separates summer from winter is the tilt of the earth. Ex. more light in summer than winter. The angle the sun hits the earth is different at different parts of the earth. Unequal distribution of solar energy across the globe. Air comes up, moves away from equator and towards the poles. If gases increase, then you get the greenhouse effect more than averages.
