Shake, rattle, and roll was an upbeat song by big joe turner that took the number 1 spot in the r&b charts, was instrumental for a lot of rock n" roll artists to find. Elvis presley would listen to r&b radio in the 1950s, he was also exposed to hillbilly music too since he lived in memphis, tennessee. He would create covers for songs that he enjoyed regardless of how it performed on the charts.
