01:830:310 Lecture Notes - Lecture 11: Normal Good, Sleep Onset, Blood Pressure
Document Summary
Zebras sleep 2 hours a night, but lions sleep for 3 days: no concern for lions since nothing eats them, but zebras don"t sleep often because they adapt to avoid predators (lions) Yet dolphins, only half the brain falls asleep able to stay out of danger with other half of the brain. Sleep is an adaptation to avoid predators adaptation theory. Lots of growth and healing on during sleep recuperation/cleaning theory. Increased sleepiness and faster sleep onset: results in a heavy deficit of sleep, become sleepier, sleep onset is how long it takes you to fall asleep. Poor vigilance: very important!!, paying attention to things that are important ie driving, major cause of driving accidents/fender benders, causes you to make minor/major mistakes which you usually would not make if more aware. Poor executive function: do not have good control over your mental processes, not good at regulating your attention (cannot pay attention to/focus on things properly)
