Teens with low self control persist in crime and/or analogous behaviors into adulthood bc they"re easy, unplanned, exciting. Their low self control also makes them too impulsive for marriage employment. Kids don"t learn to delay their gratification. Bc low self control is the result of poor socialization, it can be identified in early childhood. In childhood, kids with low self-control tend to be of low intelligence, overactive, risk-taking and have tantrums are bullies. Bc low self control is permanent; it manifests itself in crime and analogous behaviors throughout life course. Research shows that bullying and tantrums in childhood predict to delinquent in teen years which predicts to crime and analogous behaviors in adult years. Sampson and laub question whether some permanent character flaw like low self control causes antisocial behaviors like crime and analogous behaviors throughout the life course.
