➔The call of the void. Dancing with death. Sculpture and status - water clay hardening
and crumbling. Natural disaster and the effects thereafter.
➔The work is focusing on the presence or call of the void. What is void? Is it calling
us? We have explored the influence of death on our lives as humans.
➔Director: Danielle Liccardo. She is an acting instructor here at Mason Gross School
of the Arts specializing in movement. She emphasizes technique and style based in
experimental theater as well as ensemble creation.
➔The entire second year company of Rutgers Theater Company, comprised of both
BFA and MFA actors.
➔All of the pieces being shown were completely devised by the company in many
different, smaller sections. The director has input and pulls from the created material
to have it fit together into one overall piece.
➔This is the first production by Rutgers Theater Company to use airbrush paint. It’s
the same makeup paint the professionals in Cirque du Soleil use. All the actors are to
appear like statues.
➔The title is also the theme: L’appel du Vide which translates from French to The Call
of the Void. What is that draws people to a void? Why would we dance with death?
Does death dance with us? What is the purpose of death? Is it something to run from
or welcome?
