Assumpion: every country lies at some point along a development sequence; many cluster at either the high or the low end of the coninuum, so we can divide countries into groups: More developed countries (mdcs, the north, relaively developed countries, developed. Less developed countries (ldcs, the south, developing countries, the third world) During the cold war (1947-1991) the world was divided into three worlds: first world: us and allies, second world: ussr and allies, third world: neutral and/or non-aligned, it was poorly deined, not an economic term. Gross domesic product/gdp: total value of a country"s goods and services: measures the total value of goods and services in a country, per capita, ppp. Gross naional income/gni: measures the total value of goods and services plus money that leaves or enters a country.
