P H 101 Lecture 11: Air Quality
Document Summary
Two types of air pollution: outdoor air pollution, indoor air pollution. Half of the world uses wood as cooking fuels, other half of the world uses gas and electricity which is more expensive yet cleaner. Half the world that is not develop use dung and crop residues and wood. Other half use kerosene, gas, electricity but this side of the world is developed. Air pollution can be natural not just man made. Natural: ocean salt sprays, dust from desert, or volcanic eruption. Primary air pollutant: air pollution that comes directly from source, either stationary or mobile. Secondary air pollution: formed when a primary pollutant meets another primary pollutant and or a naturally occurring substance like water vapor or sunlight and chemical reaction happens.
