Aristotle, teleology, proper function, good, virtue, soul, habit, mean (not means) Teleology: idea that everything has a purpose and end. Proper function: what one does to achieve its end, ex) a knife cuts. Soul: soul = psyche, study of the mind, to be virtuous is to develop our minds the best way, intellectual/rational part of the soul: what allows us to be humans, let reason be the guide. Habits: aim for mean (average), not the means, ex) being healthy: if one exercises too much or too little, it"s not healthy. Virtue, mean, habit, (pre)conditions of virtue, (in)voluntary acts, decision. Decision; condition of your soul that you decided. Virtuous act is doing something with the right reason. Adultery wouldn"t be a virtuous act; no mean. Almost always refer to pleasure or pain. Refer to stuff external to us (honorable, dishonorable, generous, etc) Refer to how we relate to others (truthful, liar, blatant, etc)
