Physiology- fn of various parts of the body. Anatomy- structure of various body parts and relationship of structures to each other: gross anatomy- something you can see w the naked eye, microscopic anatomy- you need a microscope to see it. Cytology- study of cells: systemic anatomy- study of body systems, regional, surface, developmental. Anatomy gives an image of body"s architecture. Physiology reveals the body"s dynamic and animate workings: often focuses on events at the cell or molecular level, relies heavily on physics to electrical current, movement, bp, etc. Principles of complementarity of structure and function: bones can support and protect body organs bc they contrain hard mineral deposits, blood flows in one direction bc valves prevent backflow. Chemical: atoms, molecules (2+ atoms joined together) Lipids- fat; help form membrane surrounding various cells. Cell- basic unit of organization in living things: virus is not living. Consist of nucleic acids and some protein, some carb.
