The great african american migration northward, 1910-1920- massive migration of aa"s from the south to the north during wwi changes the dynamics of race relations in the u. s. Booker t. washington wanted to encourage white business owners to help black people as well (racial uplift, bi-racial initiative). First aa to attend as a guest to the white house. Racial uplift as strategy for achieving social equality. Idea is that you cast down your bucket and help those below you essentially bringing those up to where you are.
