Document Summary

Basic statistical concepts: population: a population is a group of individuals or objects that possess the characteristic to be studied. The extraction of the sample is a important step because it is from it that they take conclusions about the population. The sample size depends on of the scheme that is used for your selection. If the design is simple the sample has to be relatively large, about 10% of the population size. If the design is sophisticated, the size of sample can be greatly reduced and still give reliable results: random sample: it is a well representative sample of the population. Each element of the population is considered to have had the same opportunity to be part of the sample. Conclusions based on a random sample are reliable: variable: it is the characteristic that you want to study, data: it is a particular value of the variable, parameter: it is a value that characterizes a population.
