So the students learnt both and success rate went up: teachers had to research and learn about ebonics. They found that: african american vernacular is the name of ebonics, ebony + ics. Meaning the study of ebony: it had structure, grammar, semantics, phonology, sentence structure, etc, there are rules to ebonics. Ebonics is not slang: slang is using a term in a different way, mad meaning cool, groovy, those ^ are slang, they phase in and out, can speak ebonics with slang, but speaking slang is not necessarily ebonics.
