The people that came before him were referred to as pre. The oracle thought socrates was the wisest person. Socratic method: by asking questions, socrates can help people give birth to their own explanations. He sometimes described himself as a midwife or gadfly. Knowing that you don"t know is better than not knowing that you don"t know but thinking that you do know. Thinking you know when you don"t makes you more foolish. Socrates is charged with corrupting the youth of athens. Queen of the sciences thinking clearly about basic things, thinking about thinking. What makes a thought or argument good or bad? (logic, reasoning, argument). Plato was present in the life and death of socrates. Socrates never wrote anything down because he thought you couldn"t ask questions of a text. Plato didn"t want socrates" wisdom to be lost so he documented his life. Plato also founds the first university, the academy.
