Transport/preparation: many think that eating locally helps reduce the amount of energy used in transport, feeds are often imported, not actually all that much better for the environment to eat locally. Consumption: affected by what"s in the environment, drives production, and so impacts the environment in return, melamine milk scandal, chinese formula makers took milk and watered it down, added melamine to make it fool protein level tests. In the wheat gluten: ends up in the soil as salt crystals, wheat gluten=chicken feed. Creates melamine in chickens and eggs: consumption drives production, sometimes pigs.
