Defines the structure and behavior of interactive systems. Technology centered view - take cool technology and make it easy to use. Social interaction design view - anything that connects people. Interaction design is a part of user experience design and includes a little of each part like architecture, visual design, and sound design. Service - a chain of sequential, parallel, or nonlinear activities of events that form a process and have a value for the end user. Product - something that is for sale. With time, interaction designers work with services instead of products; products they work on is a service. Users are the guiders of the design. Designers are the translators of user needs and goals. Pro: users give guidelines on the design. Con: user"s don"t know what they want long term/ know very vaguely. Focus on tasks and activities that need to be accomplished. Users are the performers of the activities.
