Document Summary
Emotions: a reaction that is both physiological & psychological (feelings, cognitive, processes & behavioral reactions) Often a response to a clear stimulus. Ex: frightened ~ pumping of the heart. Psychological arousal, feelings, cognitive processes, visible expressions & behavioral reactions. Moods: longer lasting & less intense than emotions. Not always clear what the stimulus was. Face doesn"t have the same meaning to everyone. Matching for some but not all cultures. Emotions ppl express does not indicate how they are really feeling. U. s culture power has an impact on who gets to express (genuine) emotions. Ppl smile the most in equal power interactions. Ppl in low power: not happy when smiling. Ppl in high power: smiling most in comparison w/lower power. Equal power: smile most when there is equal power. Use emotions to influence the environment (job fair) James lange theory: i"m afraid b/c i"m shaking - no appraisal element -one after the other.
